About Counselling
The BACP (British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy) web site gives a comprehensive explanation of therapy and what to expect from it.

A brief summary of what pertains to my practice which can be expanded upon when we meet is the following (I also give this as a handout):
Hours: My central location allows many of my clients to visit on their way to and from work, in their lunch hours, in the evenings, or any time in between. My hours are flexible from Monday to Friday and Saturday mornings.
Confidentiality: Everything said within the session remains strictly confidential, with three exceptions:
1) In keeping with good practice under the code of ethics of the BACP, I receive regular supervision from an experienced supervisor. My supervisor will maintain the same code of confidentiality as myself.
2) If I feel that you are in danger of harming yourself, or someone else, I may wish to consult with your GP or another professional. However, I will always discuss this with you first.
3) If I would be liable to civil or criminal court procedure if the information were not disclosed.
Accreditation: I am an accredited counsellor and member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and comply with their code of ethics and practice, as well as their complaints procedure.
Cancellation Policy: To help me run my practice efficiently and fairly, I charge half the full fee for sessions missed or cancelled with less than 48 hours notice, depending on the nature of the cancellation of course. However, I operate a flexible policy re booking weekly session times to suit client's changing time commitments.
Payment: To be made in either cash or cheque at the end of each session or in prior block installments. Funding of counseling by an employer, charity or insurance organization to provide details for invoicing.
Additional Support/Referrals: As part of my records, I need to have your GP's name and address. I will not contact your GP without discussing it with you first. If a client requests, my treatment can include confidential referral.
